Die Zero Friction Tees bestehen aus Mais basiertem Kunststoff. Da Mais jedes Jahr geerntet wird, müssen keine weiteren Bäume gefällt werden, wie es bei Holz Tees der Fall wäre. Das Mais wird in kleine Pellets aus Polylactid zerlegt, die dann als Bausteine für den Kunststoff der Tees dienen.
Eine weiße Birke im vergleich benötigt 60 bis 70 Jahre für ihr Wachstum, aus welcher man 40.000 Holz Tees herstellen könnte. In den USA werden jährlich für solche und ähnliche Zwecke 2,8 Milliarden Bäume für die Rohstoffgewinnung gerodet.
Die Zero Friction Tees können besser abgebaut und recycelt werden als herkömmliche Tees. Trotzdem sind die Tees strapazierfähiger und langlebiger da sie nicht so schnell brechen.
Ein durchschnittlicher Golfer verwendet ca 7 Holz Tees auf 18 Löcher, während vom Zero Friction Tee nur eines benötigt wird.
